The underutilization of a Bill Withers song at bars is astounding. I have never seen a quiet bar once this song comes on. People love it so much because they so rarely hear it while out, and when they do, the feeling of euphoria is immediate.

can we talk about this song. besides the fact that i love odyssey.
how long have i wanted to go to new york? since conan and the daily show owned my existence? probably before that, watching the macy’s parade every thanksgiving as a little lady.
and it’s finally happening. awesome trip ‘10: the new yorkening is a go. next friday morning at way too early o’clock i get on a plane and in a few short hours i’ll be at laguardia, where i will meet up with my dear friend xtothequ and we will have a weekend to remember going to museums (THE PALEY CENTER. FINALLY.) and shows (promises promises!) and restaurants (les halles, among countless others i’m sure) and other fun things.
the weekend culminates in another one of my wishlist activities two weeks from tonight, with an awesome asssscat show at the ucb theater with the one and only globochem, who i have known for something like 12 years online and will finally meet in person. super excited :)
i’ll have to come home, of course, and i’ll soon be back to the constant hum of monotony that minneapolis provides. but oh man. it’s gonna be a great time. it’s really powering me through right now.
well, that and conan in two days. in the words of david after dentist, “is this real life??”
